workweek

workweek
   or work week
   1. a unit of time equal to the length of time a person "normally" works in a week. In many countries and in many industries, a specific number of hours, such as 35 or 40, constitutes a workweek either by law, by contract, or by custom, and workers who work more than that during a calendar week are entitled to be paid overtime wages.
   2. a unit of time equal to the number of working or business days in a week (see above). During the nineteenth century the workweek was usually 6 days3 but it is now 5 or 4 in most countries. Of course, individual workweeks are shorter if civil or religious holidays occur during the week.
